Leading Mexican manufacturing company Metalsa's commitment to the Business Call to Action (BCtA) aims to provide specialized skills training to an estimated 7,600 new students by 2020. In fact, Metalsa has initiated a unique community development program called SPARK, which is a specially designed education program to encourage middle and high school students to develop a professional or technical career. The company also offers future opportunities for viable employment through this. More importantly, to meet the challenge of providing technical skills and professional development for high school students in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, SPARK's primary objective is to inspire new generations to pursue careers in manufacturing. The company has adopted 11 schools thus far and is working with Lego Education and the Dept of Education to form strategic alliances to continue programming to promote careers in engineering.

As part of the SPARK program, the company currently works in disadvantaged communities to identify high-potential students and support them with specialized career skills training and support in areas such as math, physics and science.

Metalsa also identifies school districts that do not have adequate math/science education programs and works to ensure that the local managers and teachers are equipped with the necessary tools, training and appropriate curriculum.
