GE Healthcare, the $18 billion healthcare technology division of General Electric (GE), joined Business Call to Action (BCtA) in 2015. Its Sustainable Healthcare Solutions (SHS) initiative develops high-value, low-cost technologies and business innovation models to improve emerging market health outcomes. The company committed to investing $300 million as part of a multi-phase effort to develop a more robust affordable healthcare portfolio for millions of customers.

With the vision to improve access to quality and affordable care across some of the world’s largest disease demographics - cardiovascular disease, cancer, and maternal and infant mortality - SHS is working with governments, clinicians, private operators and NGOs in emerging economies of Africa and Asia to deliver innovative technology and sustainable solutions. SHS focuses on adapting technological solutions to the realities in the developing world, which include challenging operating conditions, inexperienced operators, a lack of mobility and limited operating budgets. The initiative leverages GE’s global capabilities together with local know-how and partner expertise to rapidly test new ideas, products and services to maximize effectiveness for customers before scaling up. And by partnering with NGOs, donors, health-care providers, governments, start-ups and other stakeholders, SHS is poised to drive better health outcomes.

By enabling the healthcare system to reach patients and deliver quality care at a lower cost, GE Healthcare aims to raise healthcare standards across developing economies and bring cost-savings to developed markets.
